My Maternity Self-Portraits
While I was very strict during my first pregnancy taking weekly photos, I knew for my second I wanted to just do a maternity self-portrait shoot at home. Something very relaxed and on my own terms. Unfortunately, I realized too late that I was rapidly running out of time. When I took these photos, I gave birth 2 weeks later and was 3 weeks early. I'm still very happy with how they came out.
I wanted to do something in a moodier setting, with the focus more on my belly and less on my face. Which, looking back, was pretty silly because I had surprisingly good skin almost my whole pregnancy and that's not something that happens for everyone. I did one addition boudoir set that is just for me to celebrate my body and remember how my body looked while pregnant. It's truly remarkable what the human body is capable of doing!
The hardest person to get to comply was my husband, Mike. He's not much for being in front of the camera, but I'm still glad I got him next to the tree for a couple of shots. Our oldest son, Miles, did fantastic in some of the mommy and me photos.
If I were to do it all over again, I would have done a few more family photos of the 3 of us with my tummy. I got a few test shots that will probably stay in the drafts, but I do wish I had taken more. I'm still pretty happy with the photos that I've got and have no regrets. Especially knowing now that I didn't have to wait too much longer after the photos were taken to meet the final member of our little family!
