Why We Love Using Hello Fresh

2021 has started and with it came a new level of motivation for us to get back onto a healthier track. We were tired of holiday food, tired of eating out, and bored with all our usual weeknight recipes. We needed a change. That's when we remembered Hello Fresh.

We've used Hello Fresh in the past during transitional times in our life, like moving and dieting, and we loved it. In fact, this isn't the first time I've posted about us using Hello Fresh on this blog! The only reasons we've walked away was either due to finances or Mike being a kind of picky eater.

For those of you not familiar with Hello Fresh, it's a meal kit subscription service. You pay for meals that serve either 2 or 4 people, and to receive 3, 4 or 5 meals a week. Eat meal serving (1 person) costs about $8.99. Since the last time we had them, their menu has expanded twice over, and the things that they offer is so much more than what it used to be. We look forward to choosing our recipes together every Thursday for the next week. This isn't even a sponsored post, I just love the service that much.

For us, Hello Fresh fits perfectly into our grocery budget each week and still leaves us with money leftover to get household and toddler needs. It replaced our need to order groceries and waste food we forget to cook. Plus, everything is really good quality!

To really dive us deep in, we signed up for the 2 person meals 5 times a week. Some of the recipes you can swing dividing it into 3 portions so a child can eat or someone can have leftovers the next day. If you have 3 solid eaters, though, I recommend signing up for the 4 person portions. In the past, you could absolutely feed 3 people on the 2 person portion, but they have really gotten those down perfectly. Luckily, Miles is small enough to get a small portion from our plates and fill the rest with his special sides that we get at the store.

When choosing our recipes we always look for 3 important things:

  1. Is there a recipe I can easily cook with a headache (I suffer weekly from at least one)?
  2. Can we share the food with Miles?
  3. Does it include vegetables?

I realize that third question really outs us for how Mike and I tend to eat, but it happens when your focus is on making sure your kid eats as good as possible. And even he can do better, too.

We've already seen a drastic improvement on how we intake food when we eat out. Since the portions are more what a person should eat in a meal, we aren't overeating like we typically do. We walk away from the table feeling satisfied, not weighed down. And because the recipes are so easy, Miles can help me in the kitchen with cooking and food prep. In turn, it's getting him more curious and more brave about trying new foods!

On Friday, I'll be sharing one of the recipes from our weekly box to give you an insight as to just how easy the recipes are. If you are looking to better your eating habits, Hello Fresh is perfect to get you excited to cook at home! Almost all of their recipes can be prepped and cooked in 30 minutes (sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more).
