Spring Moss Cloche
Since really honing in my love of Vintage Eclectic home decor, I've been having a lot of fun creating cloches to use on my dining room shelves to add a little keepsake element. Not only do they help with creating elevation when stacking books on a shelf, they also help make small moments that people can glance at when enjoying the decor of your home. Today, I'm showing you how I made my spring moss cloche using a small cloche that I purchased from the Dollar Tree and a few findings I had on hand.
What You'll Need
- Cloche (exact)
- Moss (similar)
- Foam core board (exact)
- Eggs (similar)
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Optional:
- Feathers (similar)
- Floral wire
Here's What You Do
Start by cutting a small piece of foam core that will fit inside your cloche, slightly smaller than the radius of the lid. I like to have the flexibility to swap out the decor for my cloches throughout the year, so I use the foam core pieces to help give my decor something to attach to.
Using your hot glue gun, attach the moss to your foam core piece and make sure to cover the sides of the foam core. I wanted to use my floral wire to weave through the eggs (which are made of foam) to help with the type of stacking look I wanted. You can more than likely get away with just gluing your eggs together, and even attaching them to a small birds nest sold at most craft stores. I added a couple of small white feathers. If you do use feathers, I recommend making sure they're not the same color as your wall or background. Unfortunately, you can't really see mine. If I ever update this, I'll probably switch to blue or gray feathers instead.
I absolutely love how this easy and simple cloche came out! It can always stay very budget-friendly if you don't have a lot to spend on supplies. If I had to buy all the decor pieces fresh, I would have spent less than $10 (minus tools). I recommend buying seasonal craft supplies when the season ends. While it means having random supplies for a year before you can use them, it also means less you have to spend on your DIYs next time you need them! The eggs I got from a local craft store as a huge bag for less than $1, and I always keep moss on hand.
What sort of findings would you put in your Spring moss cloche? I thought about rocks, carrots and even bunny ears! But I really wanted to make sure that I used at least some of my eggs from last year. Luckily, it seems like a lot more craft stores are selling them still this year, too!
