Felt Flowers and Cardboard Wreath
Since Fall, I've been having so much fun filling this empty frame above my fireplace with seasonal decor. In the fall, I placed a wood stained pumpkin sign and black painted cobwebs in it, and for Christmas I had a wooden sign that said Mary and bright. But for Valentine's Day, I really wanted to try making a wreath that could fit inside the space using only things that I had on hand. So I busted out my cardboard boxes, felt sheets, glue gun, and scissors, and got to work seeing what I could accomplish!
Since I needed the boxes for another project coming up, I took off two of the closing flaps from my Hello Fresh box and, using a marker, I free handed one half of a heart design per flap. I then used some clear tape to seal the two sides together.
It took six felt sheets that I had on hand in 6 different colors and cut roughly 20 2-in circles out of each felt. The best way I found to measure is to fold it five times with wise and using those folded pieces cut four circles across. I then added a dot of glue to the middle of each circle and pinched inward to create a sort of flower shape with the circles and repeated this with every single one. You could do this with one color or two colors but since I only had a few sheets of each color I had to make it stretch and coordinate.
I then had my toddler very carefully assist me and laying down the first batch of flowers. Having him help me with randomly placing the flowers insured that I didn't create any unnecessary pattern. From there I just did one color at a time and ended with a handful of ivory being the last to just fill in a few empty spots.
I added a strip of 3M hanging tape to the back and attached it to the wall very gently.
And that's it! This beginner-level craft took me the course of a Saturday to casually complete between meals, games and playtime, and was such a nice quiet time craft for me to complete! I really want to make something like this again during Spring!
