Silk Flower Spring Napkin Rings
Remember how in last week's Mini Spring Potted Wreath post I said I had tons of floral supply left over for more projects? Here's the first one I did after building those wreaths! And I still have a lot left over. These sprays don't come with a ton, but they make for great supporting flora to add to any Spring-themed project. I even managed to use the leaves from the blue daisies in that project and the leaves from the Cattail sprays from the Winter Wreath project to make these awesome silk flower Spring napkin rings!
What you'll need
- Silk flowers and leaves
- Cardboard roll from wrapping paper/paper towels/toilet paper
- Ribbon
- Hot glue gun and glue
- Craft knife
- Scissors and/or wire cutters
- Optional: paint & paint brush
Since I was able to reuse products from other projects, this craft cost me nothing but time! The best tip I can give you is to not be afraid to horde supplies from previous projects. Not only does it help with consistent designs, but it can help prevent you from spending unnecessary amounts of money on projects that require very little.
Here's what you do
First, decide how many rings you need to make. Since it's just hubby and I, we only have two place settings at our table. Cut your cardboard roll to the size of your ribbon to make sure the ribbon covers appropriately. I used an empty wrapping paper roll for this project, but you can use paper towel rolls or toilet paper rolls instead. If you plan on painting your cardboard now is the time to do it. I wasn't originally planning on doing it, but I like how it blends the ribbon and cardboard together. Once the paint has dried, glue the ribbon to the outside of the cardboard ring.
Assemble your floral spray. I arranged mine to be kind of like a miniature bouquet of flowers. Unfortunately, I thought I would be able to bend the flowers around the ring to make a sort of wreath, but these sprays don't keep their inner wire that close to the beads. Use one of the leaves and a bit of glue to wrap around the base of the stems and keep them all in place. Glue the bouquet to the ring. You won't be able to glue too much together, so don't be concerned if the stem base is hanging off the side.
Take a bit more of the ribbon to make a bow. Take one more small cut of the ribbon to wrap around the ring and bouquet, and seal with glue. Then, glue the bow to the base of the flower in the bouquet. These help cover up the spot where the leaf is glued at the top and some of the glue used to attached the mini bouquet to the ring.
Pull your napkin through the ring and voila! You now have a wonderful spring napkin ring that you can use all season long and for years to come! This project took me about an hour to assemble both rings, and ended up matching perfectly with the mini potted wreath on our table!
