Mary Kay Beach Ready Party
Earlier last week, I went to my second ever Mary Kay party with my friend, Janine, as her guest. Having never been before, it was actually pretty fun. She had one a free party a couple of weeks ago and brought me as her guest then, too. Our consultant, Kristina, invited us to her Beach Ready party where she showed us the best products Mary Kay had to get you all nice and bronzed for the beach. Having never really successfully used bronzer before because I'm so pale, I was interested.
The verdict: while I liked how everything applied on and settled, I don't think bronzing makeup is for me. I like my pastiness too much. I also think my natural skin tone is a little too yellow to be adding a brownish-orange anything that isn't eyeshadow (and even then I'm hesitant). I liked how it looked on Janine and the other guest at the party. I just don't think it's for me. However, their new Mary Kay @ Play Triple Layer Tinted Balm in Atomic Red is definitely something I want to go back for and get. It was very moisturizing and the color was very subtle. Red lips are my jam, you guys. I will rock red lips until my lips fall off. I also tested out their mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow. I tend to stay away from crayon liner because my eyes get a squinty shape when I laugh or smile - which is all the time - and it causes crayon and pencil liner to smudge and stamp all over the damn place. By the end of the day, I usually look like I cried for an hour. I didn't wear the eyeliner for more than 3 hours, but it stayed in place and was easy to apply. Their mascara was very light and looked very natural on me. The eyeshadow was far more pigmented than I expected and am sure that if I had my familiar makeup brushes I would have been able to apply it more properly.
All in all, it was a pretty fun experience. I learned a lot about using a crease brush and highlighting tips that I didn't know before, and walked away knowing how to use bronzing powder should I ever decide to use it in the future. Those were definitely pieces of information that I know will be useful in the future if not for myself, then for applying on someone else. I recommend you guys giving Mary Kay a chance. I'm currently testing out their Clear Proof Acne System. I'll be doing a blog post later on, but I can tell you right now that I'm pretty sure I've found the system for me. Let me know if you guys have tried Mary Kay and what your experience with them was like!
