Quick & Easy Personalized Oven Mitts

Can you tell I've been having a lot of fun with my Silhouette Cameo this season? I can't help it! All of the issues of creating home decor I love are flying out the window faster than bludgers after Keepers (where my Potterheads at)!

Quick & Easy Personalized Oven Mitts

These quick & easy personalized oven mitts make for the perfect kitchen upgrade, or for a unique present during the holidays! All you need is a die-cut machine (like my Silhouette Cameo), iron-on vinyl (I love Hobby Lobby's material), and a pair of oven mitts. I recommend making sure they're safe for iron use before attempting this craft. I got these from the Dollar Tree on a whim and didn't realize I was taking a risk until AFTER I already had a go at this project. Probably wasn't the safest, but it definitely explained some issues I had.

Use your die-cut machine to create your design. If you're looking for free fonts or free cut files, I highly recommend my two favorite sites: dafont.com and lovesvg.com. They're great for really speeding through these types of projects. Place your vinyl plastic side down onto the sticky mat and cut your vinyl MIRRORED. This is really important. I made horrible mistakes in the past not reading instructions or looking up how to do this online and wasted over $30 of product. When you peal away the parts you won't be ironing down, you'll be left with your beautiful design.

Place the design down onto your oven mitt and keep your iron on for about 15 seconds at time, but be sure to follow the directions of your vinyl. Not all iron on vinyl is created equally! If you have a quilted design on your oven mitt, make sure to press into those grooves with your iron for the same amount of time to get everything to stick well. Don't peel up your design until it's cooled down.

What I would have done differently

The first thing I would have done that I should have done in the first place is checked the ironing rules of the oven mitt. I could have melted the material or worse, like started a fire. That was extremely dangerous of me and is why I didn't link to the mitts I used.

Secondly, I would have made sure that my designs were truly opposite of each other. I should have made the gingerbread people designs match up to the corners of the oven mitts. Now the right one is slightly off in the design and it bothers me. You live, and you learn. I want to make these for every holiday, so I'll be sure to keep that in mind.
