Idol Magical Girl Chiru Chiru Michiru - Initial Thoughts

A couple of weeks ago, I managed to score a huge set of Japanese games for pretty cheap on Humble Bundle. If you're not familiar the site, Humble Bundle curates games of one theme and sells the keys at a discounted rate. It's completely legal and gives you a chance to help your favorite charity out. HB gets a cut, the developer gets a cut, and the charity of your choice gets a cut. Its a great way to get a ton of games you love and don't know about, while helping people out at the same time! If you're a fan of the Dead Rising series, I highly recommend you get on there stat!

A buddy at work originally told me about it right before the site launched their Sekai Project line of games. I've always wanted to try out a few Japanese casual games, and this was the perfect opportunity! Sekai Project makes a ton of games like Idol Magical Girl Chiru Chiru Michiru, KARAKARA, NEKOPARA, and Japanese School Life. Everything looks super cute and I can't wait to spend my summer playing through them all.

I started out with trying Idol Magical Girl Chiru Chiru Michiru. Man, that title is a mouth-full! It's a casual story game about a 14-year old girl in Japan named Michiru who aspires to be a famous performer one day. In the meantime, she performs at local spots to build her fan base and get noticed. She's got one fan so far and he's creepy af. The game also has some sexual notations (for lack of better terms) in regards to Michiru that make me feel a little uncomfortable because she's only 14, but I'm trying to ignore them. A lot of Japanese games and animes have that, but it was weird seeing this happen between adult men and a young teenage girl. I'm hoping it doesn't have that too much more in the future, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I really like the artwork and the story progression so far. The character introduction is smooth and the characters are different enough from each other to easily remember them. The music is also really well done. I can't wait to get past my episodes 1 & 2 of this game because the opening sequence gets crazy. Unfortunately, it seems that the game has an automatic no-capture setting on their opening sequence so I'm the only one that gets the spoilers.

If you want to check out my Sekai Project Humble Bundle Series on my YouTube channel, be sure to click this link to subscribe and follow the playlist! The first two episodes of Idol Magical Girl Chiru Chiru Michiru will go up a week apart, but they will be going up more frequently from here out.
