Geek Chic: Hot Day Party Dress

Lately, my weekends have been filled with back-to-back events and me spending WAY too much time outdoors in the sweltering heat. The temperatures have been in the high 90s, some days pushing 100+ degrees. I spent the weekend before last outdoors for a baptismal reception at the home of one of my mom's friends. The house was packed and heated by the time we got there and we all opted to sit outside next to the jumpy house with an overhead and table side fan blowing the hot air around us while being attacked by flies. Directly after the party, Michael and I headed to a going away party for his college-bound brother, which was also a packed house and the temperature was rising fast. Sometimes, heat is unavoidable regardless of how low you set the AC.

Luckily, I went into that day knowing how much time I was going to be spending in warmer environments. As a person with thick, coarse hair, it's important to know how to style your hair in a way that doesn't make these kinds of situations worse. I even went with a lighter cotton dress that would be perfect for both parties and carry well from afternoon to evening. I let my hair, lipstick and nails acts as my little pops of color and did just a simple cat-eye eyeliner. Having everything set in place, simple and hassle free was key since I knew I wasn't going to have really any time to touch up throughout the day.

It was really nice getting to relax for a little bit in between at my parents place. That's me with my parents' dog, Chucky, above. He's a total ham and such a well-behaved little guy. He stopped every once in a while to see what was going on while my dad tested out his new camera and help me out with these photos. All about turning my head to get hair close ups just to catch him right as he's taking a dump. Not awkward at all, I don't know what you're talking about.
